In 2004 Laureen Deibert and Gena Januseski started Love Inc in an effort to keep seniors with Alzheimer's Disease busy and their lives active with various programs. The word quickly spread around Charleston that these 2 giving women were donating their time to those in need, and Love Inc grew around them. The Board of Directors was formed; they filed for their 501(C)3 and never looked back. Love Inc started the companionship & Adopt-A-Grandparent programs and the clients followed quickly. Soon, Laureen was playing music with Robin Shuler at various assisted living homes in the area and Annie Bass came forward with Sit 'n Fit. More volunteers were coming forth and many great ideas came with them. Love Inc. now has 9 programs rounding out the organization, all free to those in need. Laureen is still running Love Inc, while Gena married and moved to New York.
We have donated over 5,000 hours in time to various clients. Think about that for a moment. That is over 200 days of donated time. We did Arts & Crafts, sang songs, breathing techniques and sitting exercises. There were Horse Races, Ice Cream Socials, hugging contests, and card games. We sat with our clients while they cried tears of frustration, or laughed joyfully. We watched and held their hands as they passed peacefully into God's Hands.
Presently, we have 50 volunteers, and are taking care of 35 seniors, 20 who are homebound, and 15 who are in assorted Assisted Living homes around the Charleston area. Of course, we gathered up some of Charleston's best professional business leaders to serve on our board of directors.
